Business Valuation · Retirement and succession

Planning to Retire From Your Business?

Knowing what your business is worth today, and what a successor could realistically pay, is the starting point for a retirement plan that works.

  • What the business is worth today
  • Options for family, staff or third-party successors
  • Time to lift value before you step back

What we do

We value the business and explain what drives the figure, so you can see how much of your retirement it can fund.

We compare how value and timing differ for a sale to family, to staff, or to an outside buyer.

Issues that often complicate the work

  • Family and staff buyers

Successors inside the business often cannot pay full value upfront. Vendor finance, staged transfers and earn-outs each carry different risks.

  • Value that depends on you

The more the business relies on you, the less a successor will pay. Reducing that reliance takes time.

  • Tax and structure

Small business CGT concessions and the entity structure affect what you keep. Your accountant advises on tax; we provide the valuation.

  • Timing

Most value improvements take one to three years to show in the results.

Our approach

  • Value the business and identify what is holding the value back.
  • Model realistic options for family, staff and external buyers.
  • Recommend practical steps and timing, with your accountant and lawyer.

Questions people ask

Questions we are often asked

When should I start planning?

Three to five years before you want to step back gives the most options. Two years is a practical minimum if you want to lift value first.
